ABOUT US

Established November 24, 2004 and approved for 501(c)(3) status February, 2006, the Holistic Honu Wellness Center is a California not-for-profit healing center dedicated to preserving and perpetuating the Hawaiian culture through education and healing. We firmly believe, as our ancestors did, that spiritual, mental and emotional aspects must all be factored into a holistic approach in order for lokahi /harmony to be created. It is only then that permanent good health is possible.

Some of the cultural healing services offered include, and are not limited to, hoʻoponopono/counseling, laʻau kahea/prayers and chants, laʻau lapaʻau/herbal therapy and lomilomi/touch therapy. Although our program focus targets Native Hawaiians, it is our long-standing policy that our services are made available to all in pursuit of education and healing.

Understanding the importance of using cultural and traditional healing practices for addressing health issues and improving the wellness in the Native Hawaiian community has been greatly understood, respected and practiced from the Holistic Honu Wellness Center’s early history. Created from the vision of its senior Kupuna/Elder Council members, the focus of the Holistic Honu Wellness Center has been in the proper preservation, perpetuation and revitalization of Native Hawaiian traditional healing. Through the delivery of Native Hawaiian traditional healing practices, it became necessary to provide medical intervention and palliative care for many of the people requesting treatment. Understanding the issues of Native Hawaiian health disparities and the role health literacy plays in community health and wellness, programs were subsequently developed to address these important issues.

We provide therapeutic massage and traditional healing services along with a full-scale education program in Native Hawaiian Healing Arts and Hula. Our programs addresses Hawaiian culture, history, language, rituals and protocols. Our instructors have gone through traditional instruction/training and have successfully completed traditional graduation protocols.

EDUCATION PROGRAM

Our 4-tiered Educational program offers instruction on Traditional Hawaiian Healing Arts.

HAWAIIAN HEALING ARTS

Lomilomi Massage

Our award winning Level One - Fundamentals of Hawaiian Health Practices course is designed to integrate the study and perpetuation of Hawaiian health practices through a language arts curriculum based on traditional Hawaiian stories. The curriculum addresses the intellectual, social, emotional, physical, and cultural practices of health and is a proven valuable cultural competency program for medical health professionals and community practitioners.

Our Lomilomi Massage program is a rigorous massage series designed to provide students and practitioners with a better understanding of Lomilomi and Traditional Hawaiian Healing Arts. this program is NOT designed to compete with other Lomilomi programs, but to ENHANCE other programs - it is for those who want to explore more of this practice than just the body work.

HAWAIIAN HEALING ARTS

Level Two:
Apprenticeship

Our Level Two - Apprenticeship program is a three year externship and student mentor program. It is from within our Level Two program where we offer much of our Traditional Healing services to the general public through faculty supervised student clinics. When it comes to payment or fee-schedules, we follow the old protocol of hoʻokupu/tribute.
